I wanted to weigh in on the shenanigans in Cambridge, since our President decided it was necessary to call the police stupid. Here's what happened:

After whatever sparked the police call the cop comes up, asks Gates for his I.D. This is proper police procedure. Gates snaps back, probably insulting the officer and refusing to show his I.D. Gates shows his I.D. eventually, and asks to see the officer's. This is a perfectly reasonable demand. The officer, in turn, refuses to provide that information.

So guess what? They're both schmucks. Gates should apologize first, since he provided the initial stupidity. Then the officer should apologize. End of discussion. No race questions needed. And Obama should apologize for even answering a question about it.
