Nearing the End of the Month

Only a few days, and it will be October. Hopefully the usually dismal autumn month will bring new life and something good to the world. And me too.. I want something to pick me up and make me forget September. I'm not only talking about the attack.. but a whole string of events.. mostly personal.. which have pushed things over the top.

While I mention the attack, I just wanna remark on a few things. I was in Manhatten today, just a few blocks away from ground zero. Far enough that the streets are open (although, try to avoid getting run down by trucks carting debris). I had a meeting on the 10th floor of this building. The floor was basically layed out with the towers in mind. The windows that were not closed off, all faced the towers, not necessarily because the towers were that fantastic, but it really is the most appealing part of a new york skyline, especially when the building next door blocks the rest of the view.... but I could see nothing. Just a gap in the skyline. I could see some of the reamining WTC buildings, but there was just this gap. I have never looked out this window before, so I really have no idea how the comparison is, but I can imagine.

Anyway.. today my car went in for a service.. a good day since I didn't need it while i was in the city. Basically, my car is in so-so shape and has a lot of miles on it. Over 110k now actually. I took it in for a general service, oil change, and to have the brakes looked at. In the past two years (almost fifty thousand miles) I had never really looked at the brakes. I've known they needed replacing for a while.. so they were done today. But they also wanted to replace the oxygen sensor, an engine bushing (so thats why the car has been vibrating like that), a valve (so thats why my car has been needing a quart a week), and some other electronic crap (uh.. okay). I didn't want to do any of hte repairs, the car wasnt worth the effort... but they were done anyway because I really can't replace it right now.

I also got a total estimate for the damage to my car due to the accident on the 10th of this month. Almost two grand. This replaces the bumper cover, the right rear quarter panel, and the right rear lens.
