Geek Fascination

I mentioned I have been capturing videos and stuff. I haven't been doing it that much since I've been so busy, but today I set things up so I can at least get all my tapes (about a dozen of them) indexed so I can capture them when I have time.

I love this so much and there i no one else that I know that actually cares, understands, or appreciates it all. Some friends do 2 out of the 3, but I don't know of any that are three for three.

The quality of the footage is so nice. The only shitty thing is the camera work (I have shot about 12 tapes, and have not watched much of them... so I only just realized what I am doing wrong).

Firewire is just amazing. The DV format is amazing too. I have done analog editing at home and on pro linear systems, and found that stuff freakin' cool too.. but this digital thing is damn fantastic.

See, I can pause the video and have a good quality still to work with. Even digitizing analog wont let you really do that. I can do all those neat things the pros do in real movies.

I wish I had all this stuff 8 years ago. Naturefeld and Cult Fiction were two of the best editing jobs I have done to date.. but they were done in analog using one VCR and the video camera. No proper linear system was used, so transitions suck in those films. I believe I can save them now.. even tho they were shot on old 8mm camcorder tapes.

See, back then I did have a capture card.. but I really could not reasonably use my PC to do anything in any reasonable amount of time. Naturefeld was fantastic in every aspect. Cult Fiction could have been better if the boom operators (wilson and my brother) had not fucked up. Parts of cult fiction have no sound.

Stone and I over-dubbed the dialog in scenes of cult fiction. I do not have a copy of the dubbings. We can re-do that though... it might be a little weird though since we are five or six years older now.

I always loved making films with my friends in high school. Every summer we planned on making one, but we never really could get to it. They were only done for classes. We did a Midsummer Nights Dream even (which turned out quite well.. even if I played a fairy or a pixie or whatever).

This sounds rude, but.. Calliander really looked like a chick in 1994 and 1995. Hell.. he was a chick for halloween and Lio was hot for him. Calliander looked like Kimmie Gibler from that tv show. Calliander is all grown up now and hairy and thigns, so even if he wanted to pass for a chick he cant.

Lio has changed a lot over the years. Stone too. Wilson has changed more than anyone tho. Hell, we've all changed really.

My plans for videos go like this: Index all tapes, produce the 'Eggnog Challenge 2000' footage, produce the drunks.com footage from last June (which I was going to rip for them last June). After all that, I'll get to the smaller videos including the ones from the old 8mm tapes.
